چکیده

Ni alloys are examined as redox-resistant alternatives to pure for solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) anodes. Among the various candidate alloys, Ni–Co selected due their thermochemical stability in SOFC anode environment. alloy cermet anodes prepared by ammonia co-precipitation, and electrochemical performance microstructure evaluated. exhibit high durability against redox cycling, whilst current-voltage characteristics comparable those of Microstructural observation reveals that cobalt-rich layers on outer surface particles protect further oxidation within alloy. In long-term tests using highly humidified hydrogen gas, use a with Gd-doped CeO2 suppresses degradation power generation performance. It is concluded attractive development robust SOFCs.

Redox Stable Anodes for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

*Correspondence: Fanglin Chen, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of South Carolina, 300 Main Street, Columbia, SC 29208, USA e-mail: [email protected] Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) can convert chemical energy from the fuel directly to electrical energy with high efficiency and fuel flexibility. Ni-based cermets have been the most widely adopted anode for SOFCs. However, the conv...

Effect of H2S on the Thermodynamic Stability and Electrochemical Performance of Ni Cermet-type of Anodes for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

For SOFCs to be main means of power generation, they should be able to exploit wide variety of fuels. Among Ni-cermets, Ni-YSZ is the state-of-the-art materials for the anode in SOFC which is the fuel electrode. But sulphur impurity present in different gaseous fuels (e.g Biogas), depending on its concentration, is highly poisonous to the stability and electrochemical performance of the Ni cata...

Importance of oxygen spillover for fuel oxidation on Ni/YSZ anodes in solid oxide fuel cells.

Using first principles simulations and the Monte Carlo method, the optimal structure of the triple-phase boundaries (TPB) of the Ni/Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) anode in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) is determined. Based on the new TPB microstructures we reveal different reaction pathways for H2 and CO oxidation. In contrast to what was believed in previous theoretical studies, we find tha...

Investigation the performance of solid oxide fuel cells and the role of nanotechnology in its construction

Nanotechnology is well used in the development and performance improvement of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). The high operating temperature of SOFCs (700-900 ° C) has led to serious shortcomings in their overall performance and durability. Hence, the high operating temperature has been reduced to the average temperature range of approximately 44-700 Celsius, which has improved performance and ...

Ni cermet anodes are commonly used in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) [1–4], but there has been considerable interest in alternative oxide-based anodes [5]. The motivation for the alternative materials is to avoid problems with the Ni-based anodes, including susceptibility to coking in hydrocarbon and CO-rich fuels [6], poisoning by sulfur [7] and other fuel impurities [8], and degradation due t...
